Where should I stay in and around Adelaide?
- For events: The city's biggest festivals occur in March as the weather is pleasant with the turn of the season. Often hailed as Mad March, Adelaide hosts arts, writers and music festivals. Stay within the CBD borders to be surrounded by it all.
- For wineries: The Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Claire Valley are all within driving distance of Adelaide. The Barossa is arguably the most well known. It's home to a stack of romantic vineyard retreats if that's your game. For somewhere quieter, Adelaide Hills and Claire Valley are more intimate wine regions.
- For beaches: Henley and Glenelg are Adelaide's city beaches and welcome incredible sunsets over the water. To up the romance, head south down the Fleurieu Peninsula. The beaches are wide, inviting and uncrowded and you can drive on some of them, including Aldinga and Goolwa Beach.
- For wildlife: From Adelaide, the place to go for wildlife is Kangaroo Island. With a third of its land being nature reserve, its biodiversity features kangaroos, sea lions, koalas, penguins and birds.
- For romance: Steal yourself away from the CBD and just about everywhere else calls for romance. There are the wine regions with their cosy retreats and charming townships, the Fleurieu Peninsula with its yawning stretches of beach and Kangaroo Island with its nature hikes and striking rock formations. Head further and you can be unwinding in the natural beauty of the Eyre Peninsula where luxury accommodation meets sugar-soft beaches and panoramic ocean views.
Adelaide is by no means an expensive city to sleep in. Throughout the city you can find a wide range of accommodation for a wide range of prices.
For cheap stays in the CBD, look for private rooms in shared apartments.
Prefer your own space? Aim for the city's fringes for private apartments or consider staying in the suburbs of Camden Park or Glenelg South. The city is still accessible by public transport though you'll have to factor in some extra time.
Penthouse city apartments, waterfront properties in Glenelg and light-filled retreats in Adelaide Hills are where you need to be in order to live it up. Look out for outdoor pools, ocean or skyline views, jacuzzi or spa and multiple balconies for something quite exceptional.
The city of Adelaide is ringed by greenery, though in order to hone in on its most dog-friendly parks, stay near Wayville and Parkside in the south.
As for beaches? Henley, Semaphore, Grange-Tennyson, Thompson and O'Sullivan Beaches are some of the most pet-friendly near the city.
